Anyone who is in the ‘third age’ of life, who is no longer in full-time paid employment is eligible to join the U3A.
U3A defines the “third age” as coming after the “first age” of personal education and training; and the “second age” of work and responsibility. It is the time when we can consider doing all the things we would have liked to do but never had the time.
If you become a member of Wigtownshire U3A, you are entitled to attend the monthly meetings, join as many groups as you wish, free of charge, and also attend other U3A meetings throughout the UK. In fact this reciprocal arrangement extends to U3As in other countries, not only those in the UK, as the University of the Third Age is a worldwide movement. So, should you come across a group ‘down under’ or anywhere in Europe, you could go along to one of their meetings.
Further benefits include access to all the facilities on the national U3A website (www.u3a.org.uk). These include on-line learning resources and courses, subject links, U3A publication downloads, and special deals for U3A members.
