This
is an informal group of textile friends. We
usually meet on the second Monday of the month from
10.30am until 1.30pm
in the Wigtown Baptist Church (near the
Old Bank Bookshop).
We have been very fortunate to visit several related exhibitions in our area of Dumfries & Galloway.
The Mill on the Fleet displayed East European Textiles. We marvelled at the vibrant colours and exquisite handiwork.
Shambellie House is always worth a visit. There we saw wedding dresses from the large and small screen productions. It was interesting to note that many were cream as white does not come across well on film.
The Glasgow Girls exhibition at Kirkcudbright was well
attended by many. We found the highlight to be the large
silk-embroidered screen.

After the visit from a friend of LochArthur Trust we hoped to visit the Weavery. This was not possible. However we bought and enjoyed the organic produce.

Gracefield
Art Centre is great source of inspiration. One display
was by the Scottish Tapestry Group. There we saw a fresh
approach to contemporary tapestry which took the
art/craft to a new dimension.
Closer to home we took a course in patchwork with Linda
Woodfield at her new Textile Centre in Newton Stewart.
We hold our own workshops and held a felting day at Garlieston as well as sharing skills on spinning, weaving, dyeing and knitting.
Our main aim is to keep these crafts alive and flourishing as well as enjoying the friendship of like-minded people.
Our 13th February meeting will be on felting.
